Teknologi jaman sekarang sudah semakin canggih. Bahkan perangkat juga sudah banyak di produksi dengan fitur-fitur yang menarik. Contohnya adalah Dual-SIM yang akan saya bahas di artikel ini.
Dual-SIM adalah sebuah fitur yang memungkinkan perangkat dapat menjalankan 2 kartu SIM. Nah, Dual-SIM sendiri terbagi 2 yaitu:
Dual-On Stand by
dapat mengaktifkan 2 kartu SIM secara bersamaan
Swich one SIM
hanya bisa mengaktifkan 1 kartu SIM secara bergantian pada perangkat Dual-SIM
Untuk saat ini perangkat yang menggunakan Dual-SIM adalah ponsel. Ponsel Dual-SIM pertama kali diperkenalkan oleh vendor-vendor lokal. Dan terbukti, banyak yang berminat untuk membeli ponsel Dual-SIM. Alasannya karena dengan memakai ponsel Dual-SIM maka pengguna ponsel tersebut dapat menggunakan 2 kartu SIM bersamaan tanpa harus membuka tutup belakang ponsel untuk mengganti 1 kartu dengan kartu SIM lain. Lalu, pada tahun 2010 sang vendor branded mulai bergerak. Motorola, LG, Samsung dan Nokia ikut meramaikan pasar dengan memproduksi ponsel Dual-SIM. Namun, jarang ada ponsel branded yang mampu mengaktifkan 2 kartu SIM secara bersamaan atau bisa disebut Dual-On Stand by.
Seiring waktu berjalan vendor lokal mulai mengambil rencana selanjutnya yakni meluncur ponsel Quad-SIM dan Quad-SIM GSM/CDMA. Di tambah adanya ponsel layar sentuh Dual-SIM (Seperti ponsel layar sentuh DUOS milik Samsung). Bahkan ponsel QWERTY Dual-SIM dan Quad-SIM yang masih booming sampai sekarang di rilis oleh vendor lokal dengan harga yang begitu murah. Jadi, saya kira vendor lokal masih menguasai pangsa pasar kelas bawah. Nokia yang sudah lama menjadi primadona di kelas bawah hingga kelas atas pun mulai bergeser posisi karena kalah saing dengan vendor lokal di kelas bawah (low-end) dan dengan vendor branded LG, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Apple, BlackBerry, Acer (dengan OS Andalan Google yakni Android dan sistem operasi teranyar milik Apple yakni iOS 4 dan milik BlackBerry yakni BlackBerry 6 dan 7).
Kembali ke topik, ponsel musik Dual-SIM one Switch card dengan harga terjangkau di luncurkan oleh Nokia yang dinamakan Nokia X1-01. Belum diketahui perkembangan ponsel ini karena baru masuk ke pasar Indonesia bersamaan dengan Nokia C2.
Rencana vendor lokal yang berikutnya kemungkinan akan membuat tablet PC yang sedang naik daun saat ini dengan Dual-SIM dan Quad-SIM serta harga yang terjangkau. Kalau itu benar, maka vendor lain mungkin akan gigit jari.
